The MCR is a thriving, diverse and supportive community that is here to make sure that you will have the best possible experience in Castle. We are very proud to call Castle our home and the centre of our University life.
University College (known locally as Castle College) welcomes you to the Middle Common Room (MCR). The MCR is the body of all postgraduate students within the college and also refers to the Maurice Tucker Room, which is exclusively used by Postgrads. We are an independent common room that co-exists with the body of Undergraduate students aka the Junior Common Room (JCR) and the body for senior members of staff, the Senior Common Room (SCR). Hall, to socialising in the Undercroft Bar, working in the College Library or attending exciting lectures giving by numerous leading academics, Castle offers something for everyone and across all common rooms.
The often quoted Castle spirit depends on its members. We hope that you will make the most of your time here in Castle and enjoy the various opportunities given in this unique setting. Come and join College or University sports teams, our chapel choir, various arts and theatre societies and many more clubs and societies. You can also help give back to our local community and join CCA (Castle Community Action). We also offer many academic opportunities in which you can get involved. Share your academic knowledge in our MCR lecture serious or present your current work in our Sunday Seminar Series. We are very happy for you if you actively join our growing community and to have a great time in Castle.
We hope you will enjoy your time in Castle and the MCR, and bring your own ideas and passions to help make Castle an even better place. Don't hesitate to contact the Executive Committee with any queries, questions or ideas, now or in the future.
